My family booked 3 rooms at the Hyatt earlier this month and could not have been more satisfied. Upon entering the hotel, the huge lobby lets you know that you are in the right place. Each room was immaculate, with large granite bathrooms. We also enjoyed a complimentary upgrade to one Rhine-view room; granted, this is not the most picturesque part of the river, but the view was still great. The lobby bar, biergarten and restaurant were all very good with attentive service. The breakfast buffet offered everything imagineable and was really spectacular. The hotel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and is convenient to the train station (Mainz-Sud, I believe). The other Mainz properties you will read about are located in a more urban area and, from the exterior, do not compare. Mainz is a quick trip via rail from Frankfurt, so we used this hotel for our first night upon arriving in Germany and as our jumping-off point for a Rhine cruise to Koblenz the next day (the K-D Line dock is only a 5-minute walk away). We wish we could have stayed another day!

We recently stayed here for three nights while visiting friends in nearby Wiesbaden and Frankfurt, and touring the Rhine area. This was the perfect place for a family of five - we sprang for two rooms with a river view, though we ended up not being in our rooms much so I can't say this was worth it! But the hotel was perfect in every way. First of all, it is a very beautiful hotel, with attractive and spacious rooms and a gorgeous lobby. The staff was just great, especially considering what a big hotel it is. As an early riser, I was really happy to have my newspaper and coffee every morning in the pleasant restaurant downstairs. We asked for an extra bed for our 3-year-old and there was a little set of baby toiletries and hooded robe for him waiting in the room when we arrived. The teens in our family enjoyed the pool and hot tub, the nearby sports bar and the blues club in the mall just adjacent to the hotel. We were a short walk to the old city, and we spent a lot of time walking around the town, visiting the Mainz cathedral, sitting in cafes. The Rhine cruises leave from a spot just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and there is an interesting little museum of Roman ships just a couple blocks away. The hotel is also very close to the Mainz Sud train station. This is the place to stay for a visit to the Frankfurt area!
